Leeds Moves Past Wellborn, 64-53

Leeds started 1-0 in region play with a 64 – 53 win over Wellborn last Tuesday night. Tyrik Reeves scored the first points of the game from the free-throw line. Marc Buckner scored the first field goal fro Leeds at the 6:33 mark of the first quarter to tie the game at four all.
Leeds went out to a 12-7 lead but a little helter skelter play forced Leeds coach Ashley Allen to call a timeout. A 10 – 3 run to close out the first quarter put Leeds up 22-12 after one quarter. Reeves had six points and 2 blocks and a steal in the quarter for the Green Wave.
Brandon Woods started the second quarter off with a three for the Green Wave to give them a 25-12 lead. Wellborn later cut the lead to six points 29-23, but Leeds led 31-23 at halftime.
There was sloppy play by both teams in the third quarter and Wellborn hung within six points throughout the third, but Leeds led by nine points 47 – 38 after three quarters.
Wellborn pulled as close as five points 50-45 late in the forth, but Leeds pushed the lead back up to ten points 55-45 and went on to a 64-53 victory.
Mark Buckner led all scoring with 22 points, and Brandon Woods followed with 17 points.
