Friday the Ragland Purple Devils take on Jacksonville Christian in an important regional matchup.

Both teams go into the game with a 3-3 record and the winner is pretty much guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.

“It’s going to be a big game as far a region,” coach Brian Mintz said.

Last week

The Purple Devils beat St. Bernard 41-6, which helped to contribute to a happy homecoming night.

Midway through the first, and after a 60 yard, eight-play possession, Joseph Wilson punched it into the endzone for the Purple Devils’ first score of the game. Landon Bice’s PAT was good and the score sat 7-0, Ragland.

At the beginning of the second, Wilson again crossed the endzone on a one-yarder for TD number two. Bice easily booted in his second extra point. After a 54 yard, five play possession three minutes later, Nicholas Daniels had an 11-yard run and the score was 21-0, Purple Devils, after the extra point.

Quarterback Keyshawn Killings called his own number on a seven-yard run for the fourth TD of the game. Orlando Sepeda had a three-yard carry for the next Ragland score. Devan Brewster had a two-yard run for score number six in the third. Bice missed the PAT and the score was 41-0.

St. Bernard got it together enough to put a TD in the endzone in the fourth and the final score was set.

“I think we played well,” Mintz said of last week’s game. “It was a team effort. A lot of our kids played well. I thought we played well on defense, too, and we moved the ball consistently. He said his team’s effort was “outstanding.”

Joseph Wilson had 105 yards on 16 carries in that game. He also had a 33-yard reception. Devan Brewster had 75 yards on 11 carries. Nicholas Daniels had 72 yards on seven carries.

Caleb Crews had a 16-yard reception and Jeffery Smith pulled in an 11-yarder on homecoming night.

Landon Bice, Michael Snow and Jeffery Smith each read passes well and came away with an interception apiece to add to their records.
