Our community was deeply saddened when we received the news that Mr. Billy Wayne Vaughan, 67, passed away September 2, 2009. He had lived in the Mt. Moriah neighborhood all of his life and had been sick a long time. He was an active member of Mr. Moriah for the most part of his life. And his lovely family, wife, Linda Murphree Vaughan, sons, Jason, Jeff and Joey are members of Mt. Moriah. Jason’s wife, Holly, is an active member. Wayne’s sisters, Juanita Vaughan Savage, her husband, Howard and Jean Bishop and her family are also active members of Mt. Moriah. In fact, the Vaughan family is known as the “backbone of the church”. Wayne’s parents, J.B. and Essie Vaughan who preceded him in death were active members of Mr. Moriah.

A number of memorial donations were given to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Building Fund.

The tributes paid to Wayne by the pastor of Mt. Moriah, Reverend Zane Smith and Wayne’s former pastor, Reverend Ted St. John conveyed the kind of gentleman Wayne was: a good husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, neighbor/friend and a good citizen. (Wayne was a member of the Alabama National Guard).

The funeral service was held at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Reverend Zane Smith, current pastor of Mt. Moriah and Reverend Ted St. John, former pastor of Mt. Moriah officiated. It was a beautiful service for a devoted Christian gentleman.

Interment was in St. Clair Memorial Gardens in Coal City. Our prayers and condolences are with the family.
