Eden Westside’s Second Annual Art Jam is a day camp, which has been taking place from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm each day in Eden Westside’s gym. It teaches children all areas of art with a biblical and missions emphasis.
This Art Jam had almost 100, six to 15 year olds an attendance this year.
Every year has a different theme, this year’s was Art Around the World.
Every day had a different country as a theme, with food art, and music from that country.
Monday was native American day, with Indian pottery, painting, and a “bear claw” necklace. There was a large, 30-ft Teepee for the children to correspond to the crafts set up in Eden Westside’s gym. Tuesday was Asia day. Chinese brush painting and paper dragons were made, along with a Chinese/Japanese scene. Wednesday was Egypt Day, with hieroglyphic plaques and cardboard pyramids being created. In the gym, there was a huge Egyptian tomb, complete with a mummy, and a large pyramid. Thursday is Africa Day, where the kids will create African tribal masks, and a woven tribal basket.
Corresponding to Africa, there is a safari scene with colorful wooden animals and live plants. Friday will be a finish- up day, when the kids will finish up art projects and rehearse music and puppet acts.
Finally, Friday night will wrap up the camp with a public art show to display the children’s hard work. There will also be food from the featured countries that the guests can sample for free.In addition, guests will get to see a multicultural musical and puppet performance that the children have learned at the camp.
