“Out Of this World” Vacation Bible School will be held at Liberty Baptist Church (formerly known as Unity), in Coal City Saturday, June 27 from 10:00am till 2:00pm. There will be puppets, skits, crafts, food, games and a special drawing for a prize. Children age three and up are invited to attend. Reverend Tim Spates is the church’s pastor.

Happy birthday to my friend, “Pat” Willingham, June 26 and Tammy McNutt who also celebrate June 26, my granddaughter, Kecia Scott of Japan and Gracie Vaughan who both celebrate June 27, (Kecia is the daughter of my son, Randy Scott and is also the granddaughter of Wallace Scott of Cropwell), Jacob Moore, son of Ken and Rita Moore and Micah Reaves, son of Reverend Todd and Lisa Golden Reaves, who both celebrate June 26, my young friend, Cody Poe, son of Barney and Genella Poe and Ken Moore who both celebrate June 30 and Florence Kerr and Barney Poe who both celebrate July 1!

Congratulations and happy anniversary to Glenn and Margaret Milam who celebrate June 26 and Jim and Mae Humphrey who celebrate July 1!

I request your prayers for my granddaughter, Mallory Kemp, daughter of my daughter, Ramona Joy Scott Kemp and the late Robert Franklin “Bobby” Kemp, who flew to London, England June 18 and 19. Mallory is a junior at Georgia State College at Milledgeville, Georgia and is participating in the Summer Study Program at Astor College in London. This is a six-week program. While there she will get to got to Paris. She will depart from Heathrow Airport in London on July 24 and will arrive at the Atlanta Airport on July 25. Please pray for her daily while she is there and while she is in flight to come back to her home. We, her family, will greatly appreciate your prayers for her.

Kayla McNutt, the daughter of Beverly and Brian McNutt, graduated from high school at the Faith Home Schooling program in Pell City in the month of May.

Her family honored her with a Graduation Party Saturday Night, June 20. The gala occasion was held in the fellowship hall of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where Kayla and her parents are active members and her younger sisters; Katie and Krista are regular attendees.

Quite a host of family, kin, church family and friends turned out to honor Kayla. She received many gifts and cards.

Since her birthday was June 22 the party was both a graduation and birthday party.

The decorations were so pretty and food was delicious. I am so glad I got to be a part of honoring Kayla and her lovely family.

We congratulate Kayla and we are so very proud of her achievements. And may God bless her always.

Congratulations go out to Bethany Spates, daughter of Reverend Tim and Sheila Spates who also graduated for high school at Faith Home Schooling Program in May. Bethany’s Dad is the pastor of Liberty Baptist Church in our community. I have had the privilege of getting to know all of this lovely family. Bethany has an older sister, Brittany. Our prayers are with Bethany as she pursues a career.

Descendants and relatives of the late Willis Franklin “Uncle Boker” and Magnolia tuck Alverson held a family reunion Saturday, May 23, 2009 in the fellowship hall of Harkey’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Coal City. There was a good turnout.

Cary and Ione Zufelt from Meridian, Idaho came the farthest and Steve and Jennifer Alverson Johnson of Olathe, Kansas came in second for coming the farthest. This was Steve’s and Jennifer’s first time to attend one of the annual Alverson-Tuck family reunions. And I think it was Cary’s and Ione’s first time to attend.

Several of us who are kin to the Alversons are interested in researching our family roots. Several shared pictures and their genealogy research. This was, of course, interesting to me. (My grandmother, my Daddy’s mother, Rose Alverson Black died when my Daddy was only eleven months old). Therefore, I am interested in any research of the Alversons.

Everyone who came enjoyed the delicious food and good fellowship.

This is Harold “Shug” and Lavelle Willingham’s last year to host the reunions. They have been hosting it for the past ten years. They have done extradinarily well in orchestrating these reunions. All of us greatly appreciate everything they have done for the past ten years to get us together once a year.
