Springville Lady Tigers Stomp Erwin, Attend Bob Jones Tourney

The Springville Lady Tigers improved their record to 20-7-1 and are now 5-0 in area play after giving Erwin a 15-0 wallop on Monday at home.

Mallory Waldrop threw a three-inning no-hitter to pick up her fourth win of the season as she struck out three batters from the circle.

Lead hitters in that game included Chelsea Jones, who was two for three with two RBIs and a run and Dixie Rhodes, who was one for two with two RBIs and a triple. Ashley Wise picked up a double and two runs while going one for two at the plate.

The Lady Tigers made it to the Final 8 while going 4-1 overall last weekend in Madison.

Mortimer Jordan 10

Mortimer Jordan proved why they are ranked No. 1 in Class 5A by giving the Lady Tigers a few lumps before going on to win the tournament.

Waldrop started the game on the mound and picked up one strikeout before McKinley Tribble took over to earn five K’s.

Game 4

Springville 1, Austin 0

Danyelle Martin had the game winning double with two outs on the board in the bottom of the final inning by batting in Brittany Dunn to earn the win for the team. Martin was two for three overall.

Savanna Hennings kept the batters at bay by striking out a noteworthy 14 batters while allowing three hits.

Taylor Earley went two for three and picked up a double while Dunn went one for three in that game.

Game 3

Springville 3,

Madison County 0

Hennings brought the heat as she struck out 14 batters while allowing two hits.

Kirsten Gipson was two for three at the plate and had two runs. Martin was also two for three with an RBI, a double and one run while Rhodes also batted two for three and had an RBI.

Game 2

Springville 6, GPS 3

The Lady Tigers knocked off the Chattanooga, Tenn. Girls Preparatory School after a big third inning batting rally.

Ashley Wise went one for two with three RBIs, one double and a run. Gipson was two for two with a run. Morgan Griggs was one for two with an RBI, a double and one run. Taylor Earley was one for two with an RBI and one run. Martin was also one for two and crossed home once while Rhodes rounded out the batting going one for two with an RBI.

Hennings started her 14 strikeouts-per-game run against GPS and allowed five hits in that game.

Game 1

Springville 6, Cullman 0

The Lady Tigers started things out at the tournament with a five run, third inning rally followed by another runner across the plate in the fourth.

Hennings and Tribble split the game on the circle with Hennings pitching three innings and earning eight K’s while Tribble had two innings on the job and struck out four batters.

Gipson went two for three and batted in one runner while earning a double and crossing home once. Martin was one for two with a double and an RBI and also had one run. Taylor Earley was one for two with an RBI and a run and Griggs was one for four with one run.

Springville 3,

Pleasant Grove 2

After Kelsey Ray led off the top of the tenth with a single, coach Chris Williams called on Chelsea Jones to pinch run. After moving to second on a passed ball, she was batted on to third by a sacrifice bunt by Brittany Dunn and then scored the winning run on another passed ball.

McKinley Tribble pitched the first four innings before Malory Waldrop took over for four innings and earned one strikeout. Tribble then pitched the final two innings and had 10 strikeouts, overall.

Tanner Earley went one for four in that game with two RBIs on a triple and Kirsten Gipson was one for four with a double and one run.
