Purple Devils Rollin’ Up the Competition

Despite a 11-1 loss to 2A Lineville last week, the 1A Ragland Purple Devils won their previous three games and are looking to be a force to reckon with as their season rolls on.

Ragland 13, TCC 2

Talladega County Central couldn’t hang with Rodney Lipscomb’s boys last week and were rolled up in five innings with the Purple Devils scoring five in the first, four in the second and another four in the fourth.

J.T. Calwell went one for two and had one run; Caleb Crews was one for two with two RBIs; Kurt Lipscomb was two for three with three RBI, a homerun and two scores; Eli Honeycutt also had a homer and was two for three with four RBIs and two runs and Scotty Smith went the distance at two for two with a double, a triple and two RBIs.

Ragland 17, Sacred Heart 4

The Purple Devils came to play and scored five in the first, two in the second, tacked on six in the third and rounded things out with four runs in the fourth.

Landon Bice was three for four with two RBIs; Camden Higginbotham was two for four with five RBIs; Shane Phillips went two for four, had two RBIs and three runs; Bradley Barber was two for two with two RBIs and two runs while Eli Honeycutt was one for two with two RBIs and four runs.

Honeycutt pitched for just over three innings and had eight strikeouts and allowed only two hits while Scotty Smith had three strikeouts in that game.

Ragland 8, Victory 0

Ragland dropped Victory Christian in a game that saw Jacob Hollingsworth help secure the Purple Devils’ fourth area win as he struck out seven batters before Kurt Lipscomb took to the mound and had two strikeouts.

Lipscomb was two for four at the plate and had two runs; Wesley St. John went two for three with two RBIs and one run and Bradley Barber was two for three with an RBI.

Ragland 12, JCA 0

A large crowd from Ragland’s schools gathered in the afternoon sun to watch the Purple Devils trounce Jacksonville Christian Academy. But by the time the three o’clock bell rang, the Purple Devils had the game on a downhill slope and coach Rodney Lipscomb put in his B-team to let them get in a few innings on a pleasant afternoon.

Kurt Lipscomb had his second no hitter in as many games and struck out 13 batters and allowed only one walk.

Lipscomb was two for two at the plate that included a homer; he had three runs that game and belted in three runners. Caleb Crews went one for two and had three RBIs and two runs; Cameron Hazelwood was two for three with two runs and Wesley St. John was one for two with three RBIs.
