What is the sum total of adding the following items together: bridge, dominos, Dutch Blitz, a silent auction, a book sale and donations to win airline tickets or an oil painting? The answer: A whopping $8323.
This was the total raised at the recent Pell City Library Guild Card Party held at the Civic Center.
This was the second annual card party held by the guild. The original 228 tickets sold out but since people were lined up at the door and they didn’t want to turn them away the grand total ended up being 242 and they were responsible for $3540 of the funds raised. The silent auction raised $2850, book sales contributed $611 and the donations for a chance to win two prizes totaled $1321.
Betty Latta, founder and chairperson of the event, said after revealing the total raised, “Isn’t this wonderful? Wasn’t it a lovely time? It was so much fun.” She thanked all of the guild volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication.
The Pell City Library Guild supports the needs of the Pell City Library. The funding for Alabama libraries will be cut by 12 percent this year. The guild will to cover this difference. Also the funds will be used for matching grants for computers, books, Wild and Wonderful Wednesdays, the children’s summer reading program and much more.
