The Ashville Bulldogs (19-9) and Lady Bulldogs are set to host this week’s sub-regional tournament after the guys’ squad knocked off Oneonta 78-69 and the girls’ team 46-43 to secure their Area 10 championships.

Boys’ Squad

Oneonta was up 13-10 at the end of the first quarter before Ashville got on top 39-26 at the half. The Bulldogs pulled ahead and scored 39 points in the second half.

Xavier “X” Newton had 20 points and 16 rebounds in that game. Josh Clifton had 15 points; Alex Farmer racked up 13; Joe Williams had 12 and Chase Seals had 10 points with nine assists.

The Bulldogs got to the finals after beating Locust Fork 73-63 in the opening round.

Girls’ Team

The Lady Bulldogs kept ahead of the Lady Hornets in each quarter and were up 21-12 at the half before tipping in 25 more points in the second half.

Senior Courtney Partee led the way with 22 scored in that game. Kim Fuller had nine points; Angela Gillispie had eight; Mara Mattison had four points and Jacie Tipton contributed three points for the area win.

The girls’ squad got to the finals after beating the St. Clair Lady Saints 59-47.
