The Pinedale Volunteer in Ashville is hosting a turkey shoot every Saturday through Christmas. It begins at 8 a.m. There will be coffee, hot chocolate and a fire to warm and perk up the contestants on these chili deep Autumn mornings. Prizes range from whole hams, tools and children’s toys .This will be one of most likely many events over the holidays in Ashville.

The citizens take every opportunity to celebrate anything. We all anticipate upcoming events in what is already a season full of festivities and joy, unless one happens to be a turkey .But Mainstreet Pediatric in Pell City is giving kids a chance to save a Turkey. Pick up a template at the clinic, download from their Facebook page or email mainstreetclinic.peds@gmail.com to receive a sketch of Thom the Turkey. They have until the 20th to decorate and disguise. In the spirit of giving, food banks are opening and Smart Style is collecting for Redeemable Redemption Ministries. They ask for men’s and women’s undergarments, all kinds of toiletries, white washcloths and towels. Donations will be accepted until Nov.24.

In the spirit of, well, spirit, Ashville High School Wrestling team was ranked number one in preseason votes. The Ashville High School Girls Cross Country Team has taken sectionals for the third year in a row. Four Lady Bulldogs placed in the top ten: Taylor Knight 1st, Meghan McCarthy 2nd, Kathleen McCarthy 4th and Emily Drinkard 10th. The boys team placed second with Wyatt Knight taking 3rd and Joe Stevens placing 5th. Both teams qualify for state, which will be held in Odenville on Saturday.

A hearty high five to Meghan McCarthy. She has been chosen as the female winner of The Wendy’s Heisman Scholarship Acceptance Program. This hardworking woman isn’t just running. She’s blazing a trail.

A reminder for those who wish their boys 5-12to play youth basketball. Only two more days. Registration fee is $75.

Voters turned out in droves to vote for city council members. Lines and waiting was long. But the citizens used the time to catch up with their fellow townsfolk while a kind-hearted conscientious woman passed out doughnuts.

Congratulations Edward Roscoe Lane, Robin Bowin, R. Denise Williams, Sue Price and Shirley Smith on being entrusted by such citizens with the care and leadership of their city. Considering Ashvillians’ devotion to Ashville, this is high praise indeed
