Gordon Bennett English, Sr.

CROPWELL – Mr. Gordon Bennett English, Sr., 91, of Cropwell Alabama, passed away February 5, 2017 in Cropwell.

Mr. English served in the Merchant Marine in WWII. He was an electrical engineer for 37 years. After retirement he started a business with home improvements. He was a marathon runner with 38 marathons.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Bennett and Ruth English; sister, Margaret Ruth Zentz; and brother, Philip Dale English.

He is survived by his wife, Jane M. English; daughters, Sharon Chapman, Laura Vidmar, Monti (Johnny) Blalock, and Terri (Perry) Walker; sons, Philip G. English and Gordon B. (Elizabeth) English, Jr.; brother, Richard English; grandchildren, Mary (Eric) Schmidt, Alethea Miller, Matthew Chapman, Elizabeth (Troy) Cody; Philip (Emily) English, Daniel Bosna, Nicholas Bosna, Michelle (Eric) Davis, Robert (Samantha) Halstead, Melinda (Chris) Bowles, and Rachael (Gabe) Keen; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City, with Bro. James Blair and Bro. Larry Wimberly officiating. Interment will follow at St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Honorary pallbearers will be his Tuesday/Friday coffee-drinking buddies from Bojangles.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warriors project or to Lakeside Hospice.
