Week 2: Springville Tigers at Moody

Springville Tigers ›› Next: @ Moody ›› Last: Sylacauga 24, Springville 17

Despite a dogged, 48-minute effort by Springville, the Sylacauga Aggies held off the Tigers at home last Friday, winning the opening non-regional game by the score of 24-17.

Springville’s Jordan Byrd scored on a four yard run and quarterback Hunter Richardson ran for another touchdown to tie the game 14-14 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers managed a field goal in the second quarter, but was held scoreless by the Aggies defense throughout the second half.

Week 2 Preview: Springville @ Moody

This regional intra-county rivalry appears to be a battle of running backs. For Springville, there’s Jordan Byrd, who is the best athlete on the Tigers’ roster and who has enjoyed a lot of success running against teams within the county. For Moody, there is Gabe Webb, who exploded on the scene this season with 212 yards rushing in the opener against Hamilton. The advantage in this contest seems to be tipping toward Moody, based on quarterback Christian Weems’ success in the air this season. This should spread the field for Webb to gash into Springville’s defense.
