The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in the murder of a Pell City man.

On the morning of Feb. 24, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist the Riverside Police Department in a missing persons investigation. During the investigation, evidence of a possible homicide was discovered.

Sheriff’s Investigators along with Riverside Police Chief Rick Oliver followed leads that led to the discovery of the victim, John W. Patterson, 76, of Pell City.

His body was found in a wooded area on 1 Police Camp Road in Riverside. 

The victim’s son, John Shane Patterson, 47, of Pell City, was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the St. Clair County Jail in Pell City and awaits bond.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be given at a later date.
