Drug Take Back Day in St. Clair County on Oct. 5
Aletheia House and Mills Pharmacy are partnering for a Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10-4 p.m. This will be the kick-off event for regular drug take back collection at Mill’s Pharmacy in Leeds.
“This is an opportunity for people to bring all the old prescriptions unused from the back of the cabinets and basically clean out any old or unused prescriptions from the house for the safety of children or anyone else that they could be a hazard to,” said Lisa Weber with Aletheia House.
St. Clair and Jefferson County Sheriff’s department, as well as Leeds Police Department will be available.
“This will be an easy, no-hassle drop-off to help ensure the safety of families and the community,” said Weber.
The event is hosted by the Aletheia House and Mills Pharmacy, which is located at 8420 1st. Avenue in Leeds.
“We can accept any over-the–counter prescription pills or liquids,” said Robert Mills, owner and Pharmacist of Mills Pharmacy. “We want to make sure the medications are properly disposed of so they do not get into the water system or into the hands of someone they shouldn’t be, especially with controlled substances and the opioid crisis.”
Mills Pharmacy will have three locations available as regular take back pharmacies. They acquired a special license from the Drug Enforcement Agency.
“This is a way to involve the county in an event that did not have many options on the National Drug Take Back Day,” said Weber. “We hope to have a large turn-out, and take the opportunity to let the public know where they can return old or unused prescriptions when they need. We hope for a great success in which we will look forward to planning more regular events as needed.”
