St. Clair County Extension Office Offers Nutrition Classes

Happy New Year! The St. Clair County Extension office is offering a series of six nutrition classes called Right Bite. There is no charge to attend but you must pre-register and there is a limit of 20, due to space limitations. Classes will begin on Feb. 2 and continue every other week, dates falling on Feb. 16, March 1, 15, 29, and April 5. They will be held in the Extension office auditorium, located on the lower level of the St. Clair County Courthouse in Pell City from 10—11 a.m.

Topics to be covered include:

• Sweeteners: Desserts for Special Occasions

• Portion Control

• Reading the Nutrition Label

• Choosing the Right Fat: Controlling Risk for Cardiovascular Disease

• Carbohydrate and Fiber: Friend or Foe?

• Seven Ways to Control Your Blood Pressure

Throughout the series instructors will incorporate some fun ways to look at calories and learn how portion sizes have changed through the years.

If you are also signing up for the Scale Back Alabama Challenge and are weighing in at the St. Clair County Extension Office on Tuesday, Jan. 26, then this is the perfect opportunity to learn some new things or remind yourself about healthy lifestyle practices.
