Week 4: St. Clair County Highlights and Previews

St. Clair County 42 Springville 8

The Saints rolled into Springville last Friday as an unstoppable force, scoring six touchdowns on the Tigers before they could respond with points of their own.

Saints quarterback Taylor Mickens was impressive again, with a jump-ball touchdown pass to Grayson Beaty for one score, and kept the ball himself on a read-option draw play for a 15 yard rushing touchdown. St. Clair County also got a great performance from running back Anthony Byrd, who scored on a 75 yard sprint down the sidelines for a touchdown.

Springville did manage to break the shutout after a blocked punt and scoop by Jordan Byrd put the Tigers inside the five yard line late in the game.

Week Four Preview vs. Mortimer Jordan

The Saints will be facing a Blue Devils team that is loaded with seasoned veterans who are used to nothing but success. Mortimer Jordan’s offense is led by the very talented Duncan Hodges, whose versatile attack reminds fans of his older brother Devlin, who plays for Samford.  St. Clair County’s defense, whose secondary will be kept busy covering receivers Walker McLenney and Joseph Swann, will have to find a way to contain the one-two punch of running backs Kalin Stringer, who averaged 120 yards rushing per game last year behind a sizable, and junior Spencer Brown
