Week 5: Ragland highlights and previews
Ragland 49 Appalachian 7
The Purple Devils have hit their stride midway through their 2015 campaign, and once again running back Jadon Killings continued to explode out of the backfield, breaking off touchdown runs of 55, 34 and 49 yards, all in the first quarter, putting Ragland up 21-0 against their rivals from Blount County, who could not find a way to compete against a surging Purple Devils team that has won their second consecutive regional game. Quarterback Stoney Merritt also contributed a touchdown pass and touchdown run of his own to expand Ragland’s lead in the second half.
Week Five Preview vs. Cedar Bluff (4-0)
Ragland fans will be in for an exciting game this Friday as the undefeated Cedar Bluff come to town in a non-regional matchup. Offensively, the Tigers are led by the solidly-built dual threat Junior quarterback Josh Decker, who is a load to bring down outside the pocket, but who can also beat you through the air.
Killings, Merritt and company may not find it easy-going offensively this week because Cedar Bluff has two outstanding linebackers who can plug up the gaps and get into the backfield. Both #34 Senior middle linebacker Haylan Bailey and #7 Senior linebacker Jordan McElroy will give Ragland coach Michael Hathorn a preview of what a high-caliber playoff team will look like come October.
