Brewer Next for Tigers

The Springville Tigers will travel to Brewer Friday and face a team that is versatile.

Brewer sometimes runs a spread but typically has success with their running game.

Defensively, they are able to switch out the 4-4, 3-4 and 3-3 stack and the Tigers will have to play their A-game in order to get back into the fray against their regional opponents and secure a playoff spot in one of the toughest 5A regions in the state.

Last week the Tigers had a tough second half and fell 30-20 to Erwin.

In the first quarter, on an eight play, 66-yard possession, the Tigers got their first TD on a 21-yard Josh Gibson rush. The extra point was no good and the Tigers were up 6-0 with 9:15 to go in the first.

Two minutes later they struck again with a four-yard dash into the endzone by Demarcus Tremble. Tremble had the two-point conversion as well and Springville was up 14-0.

Erwin struck twice in the second and the score was tied 14 all when players headed into the locker rooms.

Erwin had a 19-yard TD pass, completed the two-point conversion and led 22-14 at the close of the third.

Tremble punched it in from the one-yard line for score number three in the opening minute-and-a-half of the fourth. The two-point attempt was no good and the score stood 22-20, Erwin. Erwin had a 32 yard pass for their final score on the evening. After another two-point attempt, the final score was set with seven minutes to go.

Gibson had 10 rushes for 40 yards, a touchdown and was 14 for 23 in the air. He had 125 total offensive yards. Gibson also snagged an interception that resulted in a 31-yard carry.

Shawn Fitzgerald had three receptions for 42 yards in last week’s game.
