Student Athlete Profile

School:  Moody.

Grade:  Senior.

Varsity sports:  Volleyball, basketball, cheering.

Her favorite sport:  “Volleyball.  I like the sport, and I like how intense it is.  I’ve played all six positions, but my favorite is outside hitter.”

What she enjoys about basketball:  “The contact.  I like that it’s a very physical sport.”  A guard, she was one of two seniors on Moody’s team this season.  “We started out in a slump, but we learned to play as a time, and things got better.”  Martin was selected to represent Moody on the 2014 All-County Basketball Tournament Team.

A common misconception about cheering:  “People think it easy, that cheerleaders aren’t tough, and that they can’t do anything.  I personally don’t think cheering is a sport, but we tumble, we hurt ourselves, and we have to build a lot of muscle to put girls in the air.”

Her two favorite sports-related memories from high school:  “Making it to the Sweet 16 in volleyball and when we made it to state and got second in softball.”

After graduation:  Martin hopes to attend college on a volleyball scholarship to pursue studies toward becoming an orthodontist.  She’s received an offer but hasn’t made a decision yet.

Her favorite academic subject:  “History.  I like learning about what happened in our past.”

Her parents:  Wendy Martin and Otis Martin.

How she describes herself:  “Outgoing, bubbly, talkative, and kinda blunt.”
