Graveside services for Etna Meehan, age 94, Pell City, AL will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012, 2 PM, at Valley Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Sam Huffstutler officiating.

Miss Meehan passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Ashbrook Village in Villa Rica, Georgia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John Charles and Roxie Bridges Meehan; her sisters, Stella Mae Meehan and Mary McClure Meehan Collins; her brothers, Johnie Wesley Meehan and Charles Patrick Meehan; and her nephew Joseph Dale Collins.

She will be missed by her nephew, Charles Carlton Meehan; her nieces, Bobbie Jean Meehan Argenzia and Polly Ann Meehan Mathis, and many grandnephews, grandnieces, cousins and friends.

Miss Meehan was born in Pell City, Alabama on October 19, 1917; she was a lifetime resident of Pell City, a graduate of Pell City High School and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

After graduation from high school, Miss Iola Roberts recommended Miss Meehan for the position as an assistant to the Circuit Clerk at the St. Clair County Court House in Pell City, where her father many years later served as the Inferior Court Judge.  With the experience that Miss Meehan had from her first employment, she was then hired as a Billing Clerk in the Avondale Mills Office.  She retired in 1982 and was recognized by the Chief Executive Officer of Avondale Mills, Mr. Donald Comer, Jr. for her 45 years of outstanding service.

Following retirement, she enjoyed taking trips with family and friends to Camp Helen in Florida; to New Orleans, Louisiana; Biloxi, Mississippi; Mobile, Alabama; Niagara Falls, Canada; Nevada, Colorado; Hawaii, and Ohio.  She derived great pleasure in family gatherings and having family pictures to share and enjoy.

All who knew Miss Meehan appreciated how she exemplified her deep faith in the Lord by the way that she lived her daily life.  She followed the will of God.  She was dedicated, loyal, compassionate, thoughtful, caring, kind, loving and always willing to help anyone in need.  She acknowledged the presence of the Lord in her life and gave Him honor and praise for His loving care and for many blessings.  Her favorite quote from her mother was “I believe, I believe”.  She was a lasting influence in the lives of all who knew her.
