Words do count

Words count, but not for much with Obama.

The conservative media has made much of Obama using the power of the presidency to stick his nose into events that are in the news but have little national importance.  The president has injected his racial bias in a number of events such as the Henry Louis Gates Jr. arrest incident that led to the Rose Garden Beer Summit and the Trayvon Martin incident.   He has made personal calls to support Sandra Fluke in her fight to gain free birth control, the Philadelphia Eagles’ owner for hiring convicted dog fighter Michel Vick, and a congratulatory call to Jason Collins, the first openly gay professional athlete.

All of these issues have some importance to someone, but do they deserve the attention and time of the president?  They are counter to achieving the national unity that the president stated was his goal.  When Bin Laden was shot and removed from his compound, the president’s face was all over the news as he took credit for a the actions of the military men that had risked their lives during the operation.

Obama and his administration have loudly proclaimed the evil of firearms following the tragic Colorado and Newtown shootings.  Obama has used those events as an opportunity to push for gun registration.  I know, they just want universal background checks, but there will be a record made of every background check which is actually a partial record of every gun sale.  We are promised that after a time period those records will be destroyed.  There has been very little enforcement action associated with the current background check program.  They say it is too expensive to prosecute those violations.  How will more violations make them less expensive to prosecute?

The Obama administration that wishes to restrict the ability of Americans to purchase firearms ran the “Fast and Furious,” a program that illegally transferred assault type firearms to Mexican drug dealers.  While the bodies of those who were shot with these firearms were being buried, the AG’s office buried their problem in the paper shredders.

Prior to the fall election, Christopher Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya, and three other Americans were killed when terrorists attacked the diplomatic mission at Benghazi.  The president knew nothing beforehand.  It was an intelligence failing, a low level failure.  He has never acknowledged any involvement in the decision not to intervene militarily, nor has he sought to hold anyone accountable for the loss of lives.   The thing about changing the talking points is a discussion of what lie to tell and when.

Now we have the IRS openly admitting that they have violated the law by using the force of the IRS department to intimidate conservative political groups.  We should feel good, knowing that the attorney general’s Justice Department will investigate the IRS to discover any wrongdoing.  Who is going to investigate the Justice Department for the improper investigation of the Associated Press’s phone records?  There is another persistent rumor that there have been tax records leaked to left wing media groups that  attack on conservatives.

When you look at the president’s behavior related to each of these events, it is difficult to understand just what he supports.  When you read his words and attempt to understand what he supports philosophically, the ambiguity of his statements versus his actions makes it difficult trust his administration.  The president’s words should convey an unambiguous understanding of the positions and policies of our government.  The words and actions of the president make me wonder not only what our policies and positions are but what is he attempting to accomplish.

The president’s words do count, but not for much.  Currently the president’s words and actions paint a picture of a government in disarray.  A government that is not able to manage its internal affairs or financial affairs has little credibility.  Words should convey presidential leadership and respect for our country, qualities that are absent from this president’s administration.
