Odenville begins comprehensive plan process

As its population has grown to more than 5,000 people, the city of Odenville is embarking on the development of its first citywide comprehensive plan. The city has partnered with the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham (RPCGB) to develop the plan through a public involvement process. The project is being funded through the Building Communities Grant Program, which is administered through the RPCGB.

A comprehensive plan is an adopted policy document that provides a “roadmap” for the city to make short-term and long-term decisions regarding future growth and development over the next 5-10 years. In addition, it is needed if the city desires to create and adopt zoning regulations in the future. This action-based plan will focus on key areas such as new development, redevelopment, infrastructure and public services, transportation, rural preservation and natural resources, parks and recreation and quality of life. This planning process is anticipated to take 10 months to complete.

Every resident has a vested interest in improving their city and therefore, public participation is essential in the development of this new Plan. Input opportunities are available both online and in-person. Details regarding the Kickoff Public Meeting, which is scheduled for May 8 at the St. Clair County Arena and Event Center from 6-7 p.m., and an online survey, can be found on the dedicated project website at PlanOdenville.com.

“We want to hear from our residents and businesses. The planning process allows everyone an opportunity to participate.  We encourage you to get involved; this is your opportunity to guide the future of Odenville” said Odenville Mayor Buck Christian.
