To say last weekend was good for Ashville’s athletes would be an understatement.

Drew Gargone, J.B. Potter, Nate Huckaby and Brayden Buckner took home Bronze medals for the boys’ track team at The Yellow Jacket Tournament for the 4×800. Allie Cone stood on the platform twice: silver for girls 800 and gold for the 1600. Lydia Northam took home the gold for the girls high jump. She also set a school record.

The girls high school varsity softball team won several games at the Locust Fork, enough to win the championship and take home some hardware of their own. The junior varsity softball team beat Victory Christian 12-2. The high school baseball team beat Hanceville 8-1. The middle school bested Mumford 18-3.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, wow.

The Neely Henry Lake Association built their spring habitat March 5. March 11, they will be deploying into the lake. They need volunteers. For more information, call Kelly at 770-402-4328.

Other volunteers, with help from Wendy and Dwayne Greer at Grier Contracting and Corey Weston at C&C Land Management, have accomplished something amazing. They have built their first home for a veteran in Pinedale. They are a part of the organization Three Hots and a Cot.

The organization was started by JD Simpson in 2009. He was inspired by all the homeless veterans he saw on the streets of Washington DC. What began as one house for several veterans has evolved and grown.

To donate, find Three Hots and a Cot online and choose the area to which you would like to donate. There are construction, utilities, meals and much more.
