The Springville Police Department congratulated officer Kevin Thompson on his promotion to corporal on March 21. He is a 10-year veteran and K-9 officer. Congratulations to Brookelyn Williams and Dyllan Hare for being selected to represent SHS at Girls State and Boys State this coming summer. Funding provided by Springville PTO.

Students from Springville Fire & Rescue, Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service, Lincoln Fire & Rescue, Hartselle Fire Department, Davis Lake Fire District, Margaret Fire & Rescue, and Vinemont-Providence Fire Department completed the Technical Rescue Personnel: Rope Awareness and Operations Course. Students honed rope rescue skills on our drill facilities at the Big Canoe Creek Nature Preserve. This course was taught by training staff and members of the Springville Fire Department with mobile props and equipment support from the Alabama Fire College March 22.

SES will hold Kindergarten Roundup May 1, at 9 a.m. This is an excellent time for parents and students to meet the staff at SES including kindergarten teachers, counselors and administration.

Parents will attend an informational meeting in the library and students will go to a kindergarten classroom with one of our kindergarten teachers. There is no need to sign up and doors will open at 8:30.

Parks & Recreation

The Big Canoe Creek Nature Preserve is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Open Wednesday-Sunday, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. The preserve is located at 1700 Murphrees Valley Rd. Springville. For additional questions, contact lcleaver@cityofspringville.com or call 205-467-0265.
