A Birmingham man is dead after a Wednesday, Dec. 27, single-vehicle crash in St. Clair County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Ivey L. Mason Jr., 85, was killed when the 2023 Jeep Cherokee he was driving left the roadway, struck a tree and caught fire. Mason was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sharon B. Mason, 83, also of Birmingham, who was a passenger in the Jeep, was injured and transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on Kelly Creek Road near McCrory Road, approximately six miles north of Moody.

Nothing further is available as troopers with the ALEA Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
