Samantha “Sam” Nabors has joined many of her fellow Ashville High School athletes on signing on to play at an institution of higher learning. Nabors will be playing volleyball for Calhoun Community College in the Fall. We wish her well.
A total of 25 SHZ runners, and players were chosen for All County in tack baseball, soft ball, soccer, basketball. However, Ashville’s current athletes are not the only ones being recognized. The St. Clair County Sports Hall of Fame recently chose this year’s inductees.
There are twelve towns, cities and municipalities cities in St. Clair County. Six were chosen. Half of those chosen were from Ashville: Rachel Countryman Ward, Matthew Saunders and Hobart McClendon. They achieved distinction in sorts and the classroom as teenagers and grew up to be role models and model citizens.
This is impressive statistically. It is impressive athletically and academically. Most importantly, Ashville’s commitment to hard work, excellence and community is no longer just rhetoric. The numbers don’t lie.
So, congratulations, Ashville, for everything that makes you Ashville.
