On Jan. 3, St. Clair and Jefferson counties, as well as the state of Alabama, will lose a huge asset to the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) team.
After 42 years of service, Rod Goode will be retiring. Rod began his career in the Mobile County Service Center on June 19, 1974.
He worked there as a Soil Conservationist until March of 1975 when he moved to St. Clair County. After 17 years there, Rod moved to Jefferson County where he worked as Urban Conservationist until 2006. At that time, Jefferson and St. Clair Counties were combined and Rod worked as District Conservationist for both counties.
During his years with the agency, Rod has served as Alabama’s Earth Team Volunteer Coordinator. In the ten plus years that he has held the role, he has grown the program into a nationally recognized example of success. Rod has also been instrumental in creating the Urban Forestry Fair, which has been operating annually for more than 20 years. He has also worked on several other community projects that, to this day, continue to educate and engage young students in conservation and agriculture.
The St. Clair County Conservation District would like to thank Rod for his dedication to the county and to the state of Alabama.
