A plan has been drafted to prevent Alabama State Parks from closing, and Pell City residents will have a chance to learn about it first-hand this week.

On Tuesday, April 28 at noon, the Pell City Rotary Club will host State Auditor Jim Zeigler. According to a release, Zeigler will update attendees of the luncheon at the Pell City Civic Center on the progress of his plan, “Save Our Park with Savings.”

According to the release, Zeigler proposes that the auditing of state agencies be privatized and done by private CPA firms. That would eliminate the Examiners of Public Accounts and its $13 million annual budget. By applying that savings to state parks, no closings would be necessary — all done without a tax increase.

Zeigler is a native of Sylacauga. He was elected State Auditor in 2014. For more on his presentation to the Rotary Club, click here.
