Through tragic circumstances, a St. Clair County man who escaped custody earlier this month has been captured.

According to a release from the Alabama Department of Corrections, 51-year-old Martin J. Creasman escaped a work release facility in Decatur on April 8. He was reported at that time to have ties to the Leeds and Moody areas

Last week, Birmingham media reported that Creasman, while driving a stolen truck, crashed into a car on Crestwood Boulevard in Birmingham. The accident, according to ABC 33/40, caused the death of two women, 69-year-old Linda Garrison Jones and 92-year-old Margie Lovell.

Creasman was reportedly uncooperative with authorities following his arrest at the scene, giving them a fake name.

When he escaped custody in Decatur, Creasman was serving a 17-year sentence handed down in 2013 following an arrest by the Leeds Police Department. According to its Facebook page, the department suspected Creasman of recent vehicle break-ins in the area.
