Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 1425 Mt. Moriah Road, Pell City, will present the movie, “God Is Not Dead” Sunday, August 24th at 5:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church.  The church family invites everyone.

Riverside Baptist Church, 925 Depot Street, Riverside, will have a Singing Saturday, August 30th at 6:00 p.m.  Guest Singers will be the Kempters from Slapout, Alabama.  Pastor, Rev. Ken Maddox and church family invite everyone.

This is the final week of the Smithsonian Exhibit which has come to Pell City for a five-weeks’ exhibition.  It is open Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. and on Saturday, August 23rd from 8:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m.  Let us not miss this once-in-a-lifetime privilege.  Please encourage your children/grandchildren to go.  It will be educational to them.  I wish to add here that we, the citizens of our community, greatly appreciate the committee comprised of the citizens of Pell City who have worked so hard in preparation for and the presentation of this, one of the greatest events that has every been performed in Pell City.

Harkey’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Coal City, held their annual Homecoming and 185th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, August 10th.  “Stepping Out Quartet” comprised of Andy Pollison, Tina Ferguson, Claris St. John and Jason Woods who all live in our area, were the guest singers.  Rev. Charles “Charlie” Downing, pastor of the church, preached the homecoming message.  Those of us who know Jimmy Cotton of Texas, formerly of Coal City were so happy that he and his wife would come that far to be with his sisters, Robbie and Mary Lou and her husband, Gordan Smith, and that they got to attend the homecoming.  It is always a great blessing to me to see family members come together at annual church events.  

As I do every year, I attended and was greatly blessed.  Both my late parents, Joe and Orene Black, were active members of Harkey’s Chapel as long as they lived.  Therefore, I go in honor of them and many other dear Ones that I knew and loved who were active members of Harkey’s Chapel.  Also, I honor those who are currently members/attendees of Harkey’s Chapel.

Congratulations and happy anniversary to my friends, Bryan and Beverly McNutt, who celebrated August 15th and Billy and Renee Parker who celebrate today, August 21st!

A new school year-2014-15 has officially begun in our county and probably all over the state of Alabama.  Let us be faithful to pray for students, teachers, bus drivers, administrators, parents/guardians and all other personnel or those connected with our schools, Day Care Centers, Colleges and home schools.

Mt. Moriah WMU scheduled the day before school started to be “A Day of Prayer” for all the schools, not only the Pell City Schools but all schools in St. Clair County.  

Several of us rode in the church bus around to all the schools in Pell City and prayed a specific prayer request for students, teachers and all personnel of each school.   We began by praying for St. Clair County Head Start’s students, their parents/guardians and all personnel.  WMU (Woman’s Missionary Union) Director, Redena King, gave each of us a Prayer Guide to help us as we interceded for the different schools that morning while we were parked in the schools’ parking lots.  Jim King, Redena’s husband and retired educator, drove the church bus for us that day.
