In an unprecedented public statement Tuesday, District Attorneys from across Alabama joined forces to call for new leadership in the Office of Attorney General and they uniformly blasted Troy King for failing on the job.

At joint news conferences held in Montgomery and in Huntsville, the DAs said King was responsible for a total breakdown of the attorney general's office. They cited lack of leadership, ineffective enforcement of state law, numerous scandals and ethical questions for their unprecedented support for GOP challenger Luther Strange in the race for attorney general.

"Troy King has sold the Attorney General's office and the Law of this state for the sake of his friends and his political career," said Richard Minor, St Clair Co DA. "The law is not for sale and it's time to give King and his cronies an eviction notice."

"Effective leadership is distinguished by the confidence of peers and admiration by other proven leaders," said Rob Broussard, Madison County DA. "Troy King enjoys neither. His fitness to lead is no longer in question--it is a historical fact."

Several of the DAs said King's conduct and inconsistent views have been a factor in his failed administration.

"Two sitting United States Senators, a two-term Governor, scores of District Attorneys across Alabama, a Circuit Court Judge and now the Alabama Supreme Court have questioned Troy King's fitness to lead as Attorney General," Broussard said. "He may not have come to Montgomery to make friends, but he has proven that he didn't come to Montgomery to lead either."

The District Attorneys appeared with Birmingham attorney Luther Strange who is seeking the Republican nomination in the attorney general's race. Strange has earned support and endorsements from law enforcement and District Attorneys based on his willingness to restore a working relationship between the attorney general's office and law enforcement officials.

"I'm committed to an open-door policy, a true team-work approach to law enforcement," Strange said. "Under Troy King's mismanagement, the office of attorney general has become a dysfunctional mess. Mr. King has been the subject of public corruption grand jury investigations. With Mr. King, laws are unenforced or ignored based on political and personal relationships. And our District Attorneys often face turf wars when Mr. King tries to grandstand for the television cameras. Troy King's conduct is unacceptable. As attorney general, my first priority will be to restore the honesty, integrity and open cooperation to the office that the public and law enforcement officials deserve. I'll make sure the hard working men and women in the attorney general's office can get back to practicing law, not politics."
