Games of Corn Hole, Twister and Tug of War got Leeds High School’s inaugural Field Day underway.
Rounds of the marshmallow cheek stuffing challenge, “Chubby Bunny,” sack races and arm wrestling took place on the grassy knoll adjacent to the LHS gymnasium.
LHS librarian Terri Leigh Gibson set up a concession stand benefiting the library and had a sell out.
“Field Day was a success in every way,” said Gibson. “The kids had a great time, and we raised money for FCCLA, the library, Key Club and various other groups.”
Teachers and coaches took turns daring students to hit the bull’s-eye for the dunking booth.
Encouraging students to step right up and try their arm at a toss was LHS principal Michael Turner.
“We had a bird’s eye view of the dunking tank from the library’s table,” said Gibson. “That was entertaining.”
A hands only pancake-eating contest was underway as the day made its way to mid-morning.
Commentating was Family, Career and Consumer Science teacher Miriam Turner who said one contestant looked as if he was eating at IHOP while others were dunking their circular cakes of baked batter into cups of water to ensure their victories.
Meanwhile former Greenie Evan Kennedy, Jared Hudson and TJ Piazza were seen holding down the DJ/karaoke booth.
As the day progressed students Cha Cha slid and Cupid Shuffled their way to the end of a successfully fun first (of many) LHS Field Day.
Although she was nervous planning the first LHS Field Day Miriam Turner feels it was a fantastic event.
“Everyone seemed to be having a great time, and they were all so well behaved,” Turner said. “I have to thank my 7th period class for all of the hard work and time that they put into making field day a success! Also a big thanks to the faculty and administration for their participation and support!”
