Moody will be hosting two benefits for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for life. Paint the town Purple will be held in April, and the relay will be held on May 9 at Moody High School from 2p.m.-2a.m.

Starting this Saturday, you can show hope with a purple bow because April 2014 has been declared Paint the Town Purple month in Moody. To show your support of the fight against cancer, you can help with the painting by donating to the Relay for Life of Moody and receiving a decorative purple bow to display inside or outside your home or business.

Small bows are $15, and large bows are $25. You can also Paint the Tow Purple by doing other activities, including putting up purple-themed displays in storefronts, painting the porch lights purple or swapping out for a purple one or selecting a day for everyone to wear purple. Businesses can also ask for donation for purple items sold in stores. Proceeds will support the American Cancer society. To order a bow for your business or home, contact chair for survivors, Melissa Fraser at 205-640-0307.

At the end of April you can continue support for the fight against cancer by attending Relay for Life at Moody High. According to Fraser, the race is a tailgate atmosphere.

Teams will have tents up, and entertainment will be provided throughout the afternoon and night. Entertainer Todd Simpson will be one of several singing.

Everyone is welcome to come out, and there will be plenty of things to do and buy. There will be concessions. The Butt Doctors (a competition BBQ team) will be available as well as games and giveaways.

Fraser said the night would begin with a survivors’ dinner followed by a survivors’ lap. Later in the evening there will be a lighting of luminaria in honor of those who lost the battle and in honor of those who are still fighting. There will also be a release of lanterns at this year’s event. These can be purchase in memory or in honor of someone who has battled or is battling cancer. Also throughout the event, someone will be walking the track representing all of those who are unable to walk.

The 12-hour event will be a time of honoring all who have experienced the challenges of being diagnosed with cancer. Any purchases and help with the event will aide in finding a cure to cancer. It is not too late to start a team or be a corporate sponsor, so sign up today and help end the fight.
