On Saturday, February 15th, a free tree giveaway was held from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at the Argo Fire Department. About 700 trees were given to Argo citizens, as well as citizens from surrounding areas. The trees were part of the Alabama Tree Recovery Campaign, the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Arbor Day Foundation.

The trees were donated in an effort to restore the state’s urban tree canopy and the many environmental, economic and social benefits that the trees can provide.

Anyone can support the Alabama Tree Recovery Campaign by making an online donation at arborday.org/Alabama. To learn more about the Alabama Forestry Commission visit www.forestry.alabama.gov.

Councilperson Ann Brown reports that the project was a huge success and looks forward to other programs that can benefit Argo citizens.

The giveaway went off without any problems thanks to the help of the volunteers and the following:

The Argo Fire Department for setting up everything inside the fire bay, it was nice to be in out of the cold.

The Forestry Commission for providing everything we needed and some great looking trees.

The St. Clair Master Gardening Club who were there to answer questions about planting.

Thanks also go out to Mr. Edwards and the boys of Pack 911, Troop 845 for all their help.
