Camaraderie, creating foundations for friendships and discussing their latest book club choice is the world Southern author Mary Kay Andrews has established for her fans.

Andrews’ newest tale, Ladies’ Night, channels character strengthening qualities for Grace Stanton, a lifestyle blogger, who quickly discovers life isn’t all about website followers and rose when her champagne lifestyle suddenly turned to a Blue Nun budget.

Mary Kay Andrews’ fans were eager to meet MKA and secure their copies of Ladies’ Night.

Springville residents Nancy Martin, her daughter Katie, a freshman at Springville High School this fall and Nancy’s “bestie” Anita Scroggins made their way to MKA’s book signing at Alabama Booksmith in Homewood.

Hooked since Mary Kay’s first book, Savannah Blues, this wasn’t Martins and Scroggins first time attending a MKA book signing.

“She’s very nice,” said Nancy. “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all her books.”

Anita was in since she met Eloise “Weezie” Foley in Savannah Blues.

“I wanted to be Weezie. I want to have the guts to say those things,” Anita said. “She’s funny.”

Members from “The No Name Book Club,” joined in the festivities of meeting MKA, and to their delight, she didn’t disappoint.

“She’s absolutely wonderful,” said Sandra, an avid reader and partial picker of MKA books for “The No Name Book Club.”

Sandra along with her daughters Melanie and Andrea were also drawn to MKA after reading Savannah Blues.

“I always enjoy reading her books,” said Sandra. “Their lighthearted, cute and funny. When I’m close to finishing one book I have the next ready to read.”

Passing along their mother’s love of reading, Melanie, an Alabaster resident said her sister Andrea, who lives in Leeds but couldn’t join the book signing adventure, reads six books a week.

Thrilled to have her next read and glad she was able to meet one of her favorite authors, Sandra said, “I would’ve been upset if hadn’t known about today.”

A bonus for Sandra and their group of 12 members in  “The No Name Book Club,” is when they read Ladies’ Night  MKA told them to let her know when it is their book club selection so she can send them some ladies night “presies.”

Reward yourself the next time you need a moment to unwind by grabbing your favorite concoction so you can sit a spell as you enjoy Ladies’ Night.
