Community volunteers give back to Lakeside Hospice

- Twenty-one engineering students involved Honda Manufacturing’s student co-op volunteered at Lakeside Hospice on Tuesday. Schools represented through the co-op included UA, UAB, UAH, Auburn, Mississippi State, Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech.
Engineering students from colleges and universities across the Southeast gave of their time and manpower on Tuesday to volunteer at Lakeside Hospice.

Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, LLC’s student co-op spent the day laying cement pavers to create sidewalks, improving the grounds at Lakeside Hospice.
“We have 21 co-op students here,” said Stephanie Alexander, a community relations associate for Honda. “This is a great opportunity for our students to live out our Honda mission in the community, to exist for our community.”
Every year Honda’s co-op students participate in community projects, partnering with different agencies.
Callahan Construction and Home Depot of Pell City also partnered with Honda to help with the Lakeside project.
“Lakeside serves eight different counties, and they do so much to serve and individuals and help people going through difficult times, so we just want to give back to them,” Alexander said.
Missions coordinator for Lakeside Hospice, Teresa Carden commended the students for their dedication to helping Lakeside.
“The students have worked so hard today. They have been here since 8 a.m., and we are so blessed to have them here,” Carden said.
