St. Clair tax dollars at work

During the regularly scheduled St. Clair Commission meeting held Tuesday in Pell City, the commission took action on the following matters:

—Approved signing a letter for a paving project on Sanie Road, awarding the project to McCartney Construction.  Total contract for the project will be $858,142.95.  The county will contribute a 20 percent match in the amount of $171,628.59.

—Approved a contractual agreement with ADEM for the Scrap Tire Program in the amount of $300,000.

—Approved paying $6,352.50 to pave the parking lot for the Chandler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department at the fire station.

—Approved resolutions with ALDOT for road projects including a five lane on US 231 from Cropwell Drive to SR-34, replacing the bridge on US 78 over Cane Creek south of I-20 and southeast of Cook Springs and replacing the bridge on US 78 over Wolf Creek.

—Approved removing the 1-800 number for road department due to lack of use.  This is expected to save the county $500.

—Approved annual maintenance contract with Cassidian in the amount of $4,951 for the EMA calldown system.

—Approved posting a vacant Operator I position in the road department left vacant due to Howard Harp being promoted.

—Approved a resolution adopting the Alabama EMA Region 7 Mutual Aid Plan and recognizing St. Clair County as the coordinating agency.

—Approved authorizing Harold Hoyle to obtain pricing for x-ray machines for courthouse security.
