Leeds Senior Council members from left Treasurer Taylor Anderson, Vice President Hannah Smith, President Abbie Ellison, Secretary Alexandria Shorter and Executive Vice President Dean Williams proud pose with Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange.

Visiting the October Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon, Alabama’s Attorney General, Luther Strange, came to the podium ready to answer questions.

Addressing the crowd he said, “I’ll go ahead and answer your first question—I’m 6’9”.”

Breaking the ice, the crowd laughed as Strange went on to tell them his first political decision was to separate from his broken home, one parent for Alabama, the other for Auburn, by taking a basketball scholarship to Tulane.

“They’re both Green Waves, so we have something in common,” Strange said.

Telling the crowd he enforces the laws as the chief law enforcement of the state, not makes them, Strange stressed the importance of voting in what he calls a critical election.

“There are 85 lawyers in my office,” said Strange. “We handle every appeal, violent crimes division, death penalty cases, immigration, Obama Care, constitutional and civil law as well as the opinions division on state law.”

Pleased with what Alabama’s done statewide with economic development, Strange said leadership makes the difference.

“Sitting on the board of the Business Council of Alabama, I am responsible for telling people about what a great place Alabama is to live in and have your business,” said Strange. “We want businesses like Hyundai and UAB here because they bring high paying jobs that allow people to support their families, schools and churches. Our economy continues to attract international business.”

Citing this as the most interesting time to be the attorney general, Strange said he will continue to do the right thing by continuing on the right path to success.

“I want to help the citizens of the state by doing what’s good for Alabama,” Strange said. “We want to make sure Alabama’s the safest state possible. I hope this community will continue to grow and thrive.”
