St. Clair tax dollars at work: Commission approves temporary employees

On Tuesday the St. Clair Commission held a regularly scheduled meeting and addressed the following business:
—Approved a resolution further postponing the implementation of tobacco tax until January 2014.
—Approved the acceptance of FY13 Alabama Department of Youth Services grant in the amount of $250,000 for the Day Program.
—Approved contracts with the City of Argo, City of Springville, Town of Ashville and Town of Steele for repaving and leveling work for a total cost of $23,826.50, $5,532.50, $26,9490 and $38,732.50 respectively.
—Approved the request of Judge Alan Furr for $10,00 to be paid from the Juvenile Court Services Fund as local match for the Children’s Trust Fund Grant for the Day Program.
—Approved amending Resolution 2012-37 to specify that mail-in fees apply to auto tag, privilege licenses and manufactured home renewals.
—Approved entering into an annual contract with S&W Minicomputers in the amount of $7,092 for software maintenance.
—Approved a new service agreement in the amount of $5,000 with USDA for beaver control.
—Approved the request of Harold Hoyle to pay the invoice of Allen Service Co. in the amount of $1,149.97 for A/C work at the Pell City jail.
—Approved placing a three-way stop at Colgate and Old Acton Road.
—Approved shifting a cul-de-sac for property on Baker Road.
—Approved Amendment 4 to the agreement with NRCS for Shoal Creek for debris cleanup to extend the deadline to Oct. 26.
—Approved preparing a public works bid to pave at the Brompton four-way stop and patching along County Road 10.
—Approved entering into a contract with the State of Alabama for Job Access and Reverse Commute (JARC) funding for public transportation.
—Approved the requests of Judge Mike Bowling and Revenue Commissioner Elizabeth Mealer to each hire a temporary clerk for their respective offices while employees are on extended sick leave.
—Approved the recommendation of Public Transportation Director Terry Rowe for Shannon Brooks and Jane Alberty to fill two vacant part-time bus driver positions effective Oct. 15 and approved Rowe’s recommendation to hire Janet Peoples for the contract advanced dispatcher position effective Oct. 15.
—Approved the request of Sheriff Terry Surles to post a vacant part-time security officer position to replace Ron Black who resigned and the request of E911 Director Bill Richvalsky to post the vacant full time dispatcher position to replace Francis Kay who retired. Both positions are budgeted.
—Approved the application of Kush Acquisitions LLC for Retail Beer and Retail Table Wine (off premises) license for Petrol World, 21426 Highway 231 North, Ragland.
—Approved a resolution proclaiming Oct. 21-27 as Pro Bono Week.
