Moody council members to take office

New and current members of the Moody City Council will be sworn in on Monday, November 5 with a reception to follow from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Place 5 council member Paul Johnson who has served 16 years and Place 4 councilman Bobby Clements who’s been on the council for eight years have voluntarily vacated their seats.
Mayor Joe Lee thanked both men for their dedication and years of service.
Other topics discussed at Monday’s Moody City Council meeting:
* Moody Police Department made 35 arrests, issued 4 warning citations, closed 30 misdemeanor cases, closed 29 felony cases and drove a total of 16,830 for the month of September.
* Moody Fire Department responded to 114 calls. Three fires occurred, one residential and two vehicular.
Average response time was 5.9 minutes with the longest time being 19 minutes due to residence not being properly marked and being on the outskirts of the city limits.
* For the month of September, the Doris Stanley Memorial Library had 1,293 patron visits, offered 21 programs, had 155 in attendance and had a total of 2,191 items (books, cds, DVDs, magazines…) circulated.
Moody City Council approved:
* Proclaiming October 21-27 National Pro Bono Week.
The goal of the Alabama state bar is to educate the public about National Pro Bono Week in conjunction with Alabama lawyers by donating their time to improve the lives of vulnerable members of our community and generating financial support for the legal aide system.
* Chief Bobby Breed to purchase two JVC Camcorders, two 64gb cards and two cases for a total of $799.94 from Best Buy for his detective staff.
The money spent is taken out of the departmental special/confiscated funds account.
* $150 for Breed’s NIMS training class to purchase lunch from Carpenetti’s. Funds also used from departmental special/confiscated funds account.
* Four Ford Crown Victorias to be surplused and will take bids on two 2003, one 2004 and one 2005 models.
* Patsy Beard to sign a new postal meter contract with Neopost in the amount of $69/month.
* Public Works director Wayne Taylor to purchase tires from Wayne Trucks for a total of $627.36.
* Pick-up, repair and delivery of a backhoe with Murray’s Garage for $350.
* Patsy Spradley to accept the Collection Grant for Moody Library totaling $10,000 with matching funds of $2,500.
* The fire department to repair Engine 1 using Good Year. Total is $489.37 and is a budgeted item.
The next Moody City Council meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 22 at 6 p.m. at Moody City Hall.
