The Animal Shelter of Pell City, Inc. (ASPCI) is a recipient of one of the grants awarded through the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham’s Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services.

The foundation awarded $5,000 in grant money to the Pell City Animal Shelter.

“The grant money will be used to provide our animals who are awaiting adoption with monthly treatments for heartworm prevention as well as a flea preventive,” Jo Mitchell, Treasurer of the ASPCI said.

“During an ASPCI strategic planning session in January of this year, we identified the need to broaden the level of preventive care we provide to each animal, without an increase in the adoption fee.  This grant will make that possible for the next year, and we will seek other grant and funding opportunities to ensure the continuation of the program,” Mitchell said.

Mr. Ken Jackson, the founder of the Remy Fund, was part of the team who conducted the onsite visit to the shelter in June.  Jackson spoke to members of the staff and Manager Melissa Hull during the visit.

“We’re proud to receive this grant and grateful to Mr. Jackson for his generosity,” Mitchell said.
