Last week a vintage 1942 DC-3 airplane took flight over St. Clair County.

“It was an end of the era airplane,” Terry Capps, Director of the St. Clair County Airport said.
The plane has over 82,000 hours of flight time on it, which according to Capps is very high.
Emory Wheat piloted the passenger plane over the lake. Wheat has been flying since he was 13 years old.
“It is the only thing he has ever done,” Capps said.
A good friend of Wheat’s brought the plane to St. Clair County for him to fly.
“I thought it was kind that his good buddy would take the time to bring the plane over here,” Capps said.
Capps describes the experience as a nostalgic one. A pilot himself, Capps said he has never experienced anything quite like flying in the vintage aircraft.
“Everybody on the plane enjoyed it,” Capps said. “I know it is something that all fifteen people aboard the plane will always remember.”
