Chicken wasn’t the only thing cooking at the Leeds Chick-Fil-A during last week’s McWane Center’s Weird Science exhibition.
Curious kids gathered as Ben Moon, Manager of Science Education for McWane Center provided polymers for the children to create slime.
“I brought some cool stuff from McWane,” said Moon.
Mixing green, hot pink, orange and yellow polymers the young crowd felt the consistency of the slime.
“These polymers are hydrophilic, which means they like water,” said Moon. “Hydrophobic means they are scared of water.”
Discussing electrostatic energy Moon brought out his Van de Graaff generator, which originally debuted at the 1929 World’s Fair.
“Lightning is caused by static electricity,” said Moon.
Moon shared his love of science with the young minds gathered at the Leeds Chick-Fil-A.
“I’ve always loved science and wrote about it in college.”
Passing on his passion for science, Moon says he and his soon-to-be three-year-old daughter Holland like to read science books at night.
Excited to be doing something he loves, Moon says taking McWane’s portable planetarium to schools is something he truly enjoys.
“The best thing about my job is working with kids. I get to talk about things I like,” said Moon. “I really dig it, it’s always fun.”
