Pell City native receives top honors

Thirteen Beasley Allen attorneys were selected for inclusion on the 2012 Super Lawyers list, a designation earned by fewer than five percent of lawyers in the state. Included on the list is the firm’s shareholders, Andy D. Birchfield, Jr., a Pell City native.

The Super Lawyer designation is based on peer recognition and personal achievement, and involves a statewide nomination process, independent research on each candidate, and peer evaluation by practice area. Criteria that factors into the selection process include verdicts, settlements, transactions, representative clients, experience, honors and awards, special licenses and certifications, position within the law firm, bar or other professional activity; pro bono and community service, scholarly lectures and writings, education and employment background, and other outstanding achievements.

The law firm has also been been ranked among the best law firms and lawyers in America, according to the 2012 edition of Chambers USA guide. The guide ranks the firm of Beasley Allen at number one in litigation.  Birchfield, was ranked at number threee in Litigation: Product Liability in the nation.

 Andy Birchfield manages the firm’s Mass Torts section and was the co-lead attorney on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the federal Vioxx litigation MDL. He was lead or co-lead counsel in five Vioxx trials, including one that resulted in a $51 million verdict against Merck. To date, Andy has been involved in cases resulting in settlements and verdicts totaling in excess of $5.4 billion.

Birchfield earned his J.D. from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law in 1992, graduating magna cum laude. In 2010, Andy received the Litigator of the Decade award from Beasley Allen. He has received an AV rating from Martindale Hubbell.
