Members of the Springville Chamber of Commerce had much to discuss at this month’s meeting because a New Year means new business for Springville.
Welcoming new chamber president Brian Skinner and vice president Jimmy Calvert to the group, Skinner starting by saying, “We’re very proud of our Springville chamber.”
Skinner let attendees know that town Christmas ornaments were still on sale at the library for $15.
Having sold over $500 so far in ornament sales, Skinner said, “It’s never too early to buy these ornaments. They are a beautiful collection.”
The chamber chatter then turned to the topic of the town’s annual events. Springtime means a bevy of activity will be blooming in Springville. From events such as Springfest, the Easter egg hunt and Take A Kid Fishing, St. Clair County citizens will have their calendars full.
Another event that Springville looks forward to raising awareness for is the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. St. Clair County’s community representative for the American Cancer Society Natalie Burke spoke to the Springville chamber luncheon attendees.
“We’re currently recruiting committee members in Springville, Ashville and Argo. This is the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising event to remember loved ones lost and to fight back against this disease,” said Burke.
Area locals such as former Springville chamber president Mike Toungette is serving on the entertainment committee while Springville city attorney James Hill and Chad Camp of Lovejoy Realty are securing sponsors for relay.
Encouraging luncheon attendees to join them for the Springville Relay for Life kick off on Thursday, January 19 at the SHS lunchroom.
“We have so much of an opportunity here,” said Burke.
Striving to achieve their goal of $30,000 through sponsorship and teams, Burke suggested hosting a paint the town purple fundraiser to create awareness throughout the area.
Springville’s Relay for Life is set for Friday, May 4 from 6pm to 6am at Springville High School (SHS) football field.
“We relay from dusk ‘til dawn because cancer never sleeps,” Burke said.
