Gametime snack: JFL’s Bollywood Salmon Dip

New years may be over but parties still abound and guests still pop in. Particularly with football sticking around for another month dips and salty snacks are certainly in demand. This easy dip can be assembled in a flash, like during half time or between hockey periods. And it makes a lot for all your hungry party goers.

Best of all in my opinion it turns boring old salmon dip on it’s ear with an infusion of rich Indian flavor. Naan can be found in specialty stores and high end markets like Publix. Check in the deli and ask for help.

Bollywood Salmon Dip

¾ cup (6 oz) canned smoked salmon

1 cup sour cream

1 cup yogurt

3 tsp lemon juice

2 tbsp capers

1 cup diced red onion

1 tbsp horseradish

1 tbsp fresh dill

1 tsp garam masala

1 tsp paprika

salt and pepper to taste

Dice the salmon fine and combine the ingredients in a large bowl. Whisk like a madman until it’s well combined and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper. Serve in a bowl with Naan toast.

Spiced Naan Toast

4 naan (2 packages)

½ cup grapeseed oil

½ cup lemon juice

2 tbsp garlic salt

2 tbsp garam masala

Salt

fresh ground pepper

Slice the naan into chips, depending on the bread I generally get about twelve chips per bread. Whisk together the other ingredients in a bowl and toss the bread one at a time in the oil mixture. Broil on baking sheets evenly spaced out for about three minutes and remove.

The sour, salty, toast is a perfect compliment to the rich, creamy, dip. The tasters were naan to pleased when I ran our, or my constant Naan puns. You can whip up this dip in a flash, especially if you dice the onion in advance. So no matter the party don’t be afraid to try something different than the typical nachos and chili. You may just find a new game day favorite.
