There is a chance of severe thunderstorms today and tonight, as a cold front pushes through central Alabama. Damaging straight line winds and tornadoes are both possible with these thunderstorms. Large hail and locally heavy rain are secondary threats.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency asks that residents please be weather aware today. St. Clair County has been placed in the highest tornado threat area, according to the EMA. [See National Weather Service images of predicted line of severe weather at right, below the advertisment.]

Severe storms will likely affect the northwestern counties of central Alabama between 2 and 6 pm, and then shift southeast overnight.

The area with the greatest tornado threat will be along and north of a line from Demopolis, to Calera, to Gadsden. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out outside of this area.
