The Leadership Community Bankers division of the Community Bankers Association of Alabama held its 15th Annual Legislative Day in Montgomery on April 20.

Metro Bank took 16 students, two employees and two teachers from Pell City High School to the Capital to meet and greet.

In all, 150 bankers and high school students from all over the state attended the annual event, which included addresses from Alabama Governor Robert Bentley, Lieutenant Governor Kay Ivey and State Banking Superintendent John Harrison.

According to Scott E. Latham, CBAA president and CEO, the event is designed to heighten awareness of the students as to how state government works and to encourage involvement in the democratic process at a young age. “Students actually have the chance to talk with their legislators and state government leaders about issues prevalent in their own communities, while getting a first-hand view of how the legislative process actually works,” he said.

Community banks in Alabama know the importance of involvement within their local communities. This annual event is designed to encourage students to become involved citizens in order to make a difference in their schools and communities.
