Ashville Middle headed to nationals this weekend

Ashville Middle School’s archery team finished at the top of the state’s Archery in Schools championship last month.
With a team score of 3360 points – 113 more than second-place Buckhorn – Ashville will advance to the national competition in Louisville, Ky., on May 13-14. The high school team, which finished second – two points behind winner Alma Bryant — will also take part in the national contest.
Following is a list of the state contest’s divisions, number of participants, and how Ashville’s archers fared.
High school girls’ division (118): Stephanie Whisenant, first; Tiffany Cosper, second; Felicia Williams, eighth; Crimson Self, 13th; Amanda Cosper, 14th; Kirsten Johnson, 26th; and Kaylee Bollinger, 40th.
High school boys’ division (200): Cory Thornton, third; Dylan Honeycutt, fourth; Micah Baker, fifth; Zac Roberts, sixth; Tyler Limbaugh, eighth; Korey McKay, 14th; Carson Canant, 20th; Gabe St. John, 24th; Steven Reynolds, 26th; Jeremy Stewart, 27th; Nathan Owens, 28th; Will Wakefield, 40th; Jacob O’Dell, 48th; Hunter Roberts, 52nd; Kyle Marcrum, 81st; Jacob Baker, 91st; and Luke Richerzhagen, 100th.
Middle school girls’ division (89): Tabitha Tucker, first; Amanda Alexander, second; Autumn Urban, fourth; Nikki Moss, fifth; Erin Smith, sixth; Jordan Oubre, 16th; and Megan Pate, 30th.
Middle school boys’ division (180): Caleb Wise, second; Chris Reeves, fifth; Caleb Johnson, 14th; Zack Smith, 18th; Samuel Sager, 20th; Samuel Howard, 25th; Patrick Woodard, 34th; Robby Griffith, 42nd; and Jimmy Williams, 44th.
Elementary school girls’ divison (168): Paige Layfield, second; Hannah Howard, fourth; Emily Woodard, fifth; Jesica Sybert, sixth; Sadie Martin, 14th; and Lauren Staples, 68th.
Elementary school boys’ division (243): Chase Roberts, first; and Hunter Huckbay, ninth.
