Pell City Police Department Cpl. Jon Herren pets his new canine companion, Mannie. Mannie will serve as the department's new narcotics K9 unit.

The Pell City Police Department recently welcomed a new narcotics K-9 unit to the force.  

Cpl. Jon Herren retrieved a one-year-old shepherd/lab mix named Mannie from the Lackland Air Force Base in Texas last week.

The PCPD lost a previous K-9, Deek, to cancer during the holiday season, and was financially unable to replace him. Mannie was provided to the PCPD free of charge through the Department of Defense.

Mannie began her final certification process as a narcotics K-9 unit this week.
